1/26 Headshot Assignment

Warmup: Read one of the award winning student-written feature stories from 2015. http://studentpress.org/nspa/awards/2015-story-of-the-year/

Answer the following questions on your blog. But, first, google the term "nutgraph." 1. Why do you think the reporter’s story is an award finalist?

2. How did the lead add to the story? 3. Were you able to identify the nutgraph?

In  your own words write about why feature stories need nutgraphs in the story.

Seeing light can be hard. Finding or creating the light you want can be harder.

Some easy lighting examples can be found at: lehttp://www.iheartfaces.com/2013/02/off-camera-lighting-tips/

Though the examples use Alien Bee studio lights that are synched to the camera, you can achieve the same looks with "hot" lights--although over time, hot lights will make your room/studio, well, HOT.

You'll notices that the five examples, when side by side, have no continuity in color. I'm not sure if the photographer didn't know how to control the color or didn't have any desire to--but it will be something that you'll want to notice now and eventually learn to control.

For your portrait assignment, you will photograph the person you interviewed.

Headshot portrait tips can be found on this pdf:

Complete this headshot analysis before moving on to start your shoot. I have a handout you may use to circle your selections.

Complete the assignment following closely the directions on the following pdf. I have paper handouts for you to use to check off your work. In the end, upload your photos to your student folder on the photoj server instead of uploading them to the folder named on the handout.
