Time is flying, y'all! We will NOT have as many assignments this six weeks as I had first planned. Therefore, each assignment will count as roughly 15 points toward your six weeks grade. Please do the MATH when considering whether to put forth the effort or not.
If you like to shoot up close and personal like I do, and you really enjoy letting in all the light that a large aperture lets in (referred to as shooting "wide open," and you love a very shallow depth of field that the large aperture gives you, then you are probably going to love focusing and recomposing.
One caveat: If you are shooting in very low light or shooting macro, you might not have as much control as you like over the focus hunting. In that case, you may decide to manually focus (if your eyesight is spot on--mine is not).
How to set your autofocus to center focus: Using the button at the top right of the back of the camera, navigate through choices using the selection wheel located right behind the shutter button. until the center point is the only one selected.
How to change your autofocus drive to One Shot: Click "AF" button to the right of the SET button on the back of the camera. Choose "One Shot" from the menu on the LCD screen. You may need to scroll through the three options using the wheel behind the shutter button. Also make sure your drive mode is set to Single shooting (using the button to the left of the SET button).
About One Shot: In this mode, which is geared to shooting stationary subjects, the camera locks focus when you press the shutter button halfway. Focus remains locked as long as you hold the shutter button at that halfway position.
How to focus & recompose: While leaving the focus point in the center, point your camera at your subject, lock focus by half-pressing the shutter button and waiting for the camera to confirm it (either by a beep or by the red square/indicator inside the viewfinder), then recompose and take a picture.
Assignment: Set your camera as described above. Take 20 pictures using the focus/recompose technique. Make sure that your photos have only the middle ground in focus, with the foreground and background blurred.
